Statement & Bio

As a pilot I was aware of the constantly changing play of air and light in the atmosphere, the warmth of the sun, the speed of the wind, the water in the clouds. That led to my appreciation of the interaction of color, value and temperature occurring in clouds. Pure constructs of nature, nothing contrived.
Light shines through the air, on the earth, and on everything in between. The way that earthy greens of distant and close landscapes melt into each other and into the soft blues of the sky with the help of clouds and warm light feels carefully crafted, and yet the colors take shape naturally as though blown by the wind. It inspires awe in the sheer beauty of the randomness of nature and makes me feel that randomness, and therefore chaos, is to be celebrated under such a warm and inclusive sun.
Those subtle changes are the elements that I portray in my paintings to convey feelings of calm and awe. Soft edges and subtle color and value contrast.
Works are mainly done in oil on panel and canvas.
